Would the Flyers move one of their defensemen? We only hear about Simmonds. |

I think gudas is a real possibility at the right compensation. Fletcher will probably want young nhl or near nhl ready prospect talent. But the reports out of Lehigh on Phil Myers excellent play increase the possibility I believe.
For how much gets written about our young dmen gudas has been the most consistent and reliable dman for the flyers this year |

Thanks Bill, great read. Wholeheartedly agree on Giroux's career to date, such an under appreciated player. He's putting his name up there with some all-time Flyer greats.
I read a story, hockeywriters I think, about how Holmgren quickly turned around the Flyers following the 2006/07 season where they finished dead last, the point of it was the makeup of that team was similar to this current rendition.
Hopefully we can turn this thing around this summer.

Other then a few young guys and Giroux I don’t think any player should feel safe. That’s the way it should be when your at the bottom of the league.

I read a piece not long ago about Gostisbehere. Probably a pipe dream. The thing is that I don't think Bergevin should and will pay the price to get a guy like Muzzin at the deadline. I think he will look at youngers guys (LHD) with more years on their deals. |

Ghost might not be as safe as you think. He has not played very good this year.

Giroux is criminally underrated by much of the fanbase and much of the hockey media as well. He's incredibly talented and durable, excels in all situations and can play any forward position. When it's all said and done (and I agree with Bill, I think he's a career Flyer), I believe he'll finish with somewhere around 350 goals and over 1100 points.
As to where he'll rank among the all time Flyers greats, that is TBD. Clarke is safe at #1, as Giroux will never equal his 3 Hart trophies, nor his overall numbers. However, if Giroux captains this team to a Cup before he retires, he likely finishes his career as the #2 Flyer of all time. It will also all but assure that he gets in the Hall of Fame and that his number is retired. That's one hell of a career.

As in any deal, it all depends on what is coming back. Other than Giroux, Coots, Patrick, Provorov and Hart; anyone could be dealt. It all depends on the return.

Ghost could be available, but even though he's having a down year, the cost to acquire him will be very steep. He's only 24 and he's signed to a very cap friendly long term deal. |

I am not sure what the Flyers would want, let's say for Gostisbehere. Picks and prospects? Young NHL ready players? Both? |

Agree 100%
Giroux is 4th on my list of personal all time favorite Flyers behind only Clarke, Parent and Howe.

I would think if I'm Fletcher, the deal likely starts with Kotkaniemi. |

Yeah. That's not happening. I could see mtl putting a package around their 1st round pick, both of their 2nd round picks and another good piece (Lehkonen, Romanov or Brook). Maybe a little more. |

A large part of that was the availability of a true #1 NHL defenseman in Timonen. No such player available in free agency this year. I think the worst thing the Flyers could do right is to try and buy or trade their way to success. It's a different league now. |

That is true, presuming Karlsson re-signs with San Jose rather than going UFA. However, if Provorov bounces back next season to his 2017-18 level and not the way he's played this season, the Flyers don't need a "true No. 1" because they'd have a young one in-house. They would still need a 20-min vet type, though. |
